Individual Sessions

If you would like to book a one-off session in addition to or instead of doula support, here is what I offer.

Birth preparation

These antenatal sessions are tailor-made birth preparation, individualised care for you (and your partner) – online or in-person.

Book one of these sessions at any time during your pregnancy. You and your partner can ask all of the questions that you have. Antenatal sessions are a great way of reducing anxiety, learning about labour and birth, and preparing yourself and your family for the journey ahead!

What we can do in the session:

  • talk about any fears, concerns and doubts
  • debrief your past experiences of birth
  • write a birth vision
  • involve your partner in the preparations and help you decide together what is right for you
  • offer evidence-based information on any interventions suggested to you (such as an induction)
  • signpost you to additional services and groups
  • talk through postpartum and how to best prepare for a positive postpartum experience

Cost: Antenatal sessions are 80 Euros per session (70-90 minutes).

“Su joined us in my third birth, the first one in Ireland. Due to my previous experiences I had a clear view of how I wanted this birth to develop and I was deep in the preparations – physical and mental – when we met her. Crazy how much you can still learn even after giving birth twice! Su immediately tuned in and gave me and us good practical advice!”

Dana, third time mum, Co. Clare

“I had a loss during a previous pregnancy due to hospital negligence. When I got pregnant again, I had Su as a doula. Su being there with me made me realise how you can be taken seriously in the hospital when you come with a support doula, I was helped and I was satisfied with the help. My doula was there helping me ask some of the questions that I didn’t ask when I was alone.”

Sindi, third time mum, Co. Mayo

Birth trauma rewind

I offer 3-Step Rewind sessions for people who have experienced difficult or traumatic births.

Birth trauma is the result of feeling out of control, not listened to, powerless, scared or violated during labour and birth. It is not about the birth as such, it is about how you felt. You can be traumatised after a vaginal birth with a healthy baby, and you can be fine after an emergency c-section – it all depends on how you were talked to and how you felt about what was happening.

Birth trauma results in lasting symptoms that affect your life negatively. These can include nightmares, flashbacks, a feeling of disconnection with your baby and/or your partner, anger, depression, not being able to talk about the birth, not wanting to have another baby because of the last birth, not feeling able to go into hospitals or talk to doctors. Trauma symptoms tend to not get less intense over time – it feels like it’s not shifting. The intensity of your feelings remains as if the birth had happened yesterday, even if it was years ago.

The 3-Step Rewind is a gentle process involving relaxation and guided visualisations that support your own ability to heal from a traumatic experience. You can share your story during the process, but you don’t have to. Talking about traumatic events is not always helpful in the healing process.

The 3-Step Rewind works because it helps your brain process the traumatic memory and integrate it, so that it does not feel like it’s still happening to you right now. You will still remember the birth, but the intensity of the feelings associated with it will be less.

It is never too late to do this process.

Cost: 150 Euros for 2-3 sessions (online or in-person)

Shamanic drumming

Sometimes words fail us. Sometimes we need to let go of the thinking mind and dive deeper. I can drum for you, and we can see what emerges. We can do this with a specific intention or question in mind, or you can follow the drum to simply connect deeply with yourself or your baby. The steady beat of the drum can help carry us where we need to go. It creates a sacred space for intuition, connection and trust in the process of birthing our babies and (re)birthing ourselves.

COST: 80 Euros (1 hour-1.5 hours)

Ceremonies

I believe that we all need rituals for the big thresholds in our lives: birth, death, rebirth. I can assist you in creating your own ceremony, using the words, symbols and rituals that carry meaning for you. Shamanic drumming can be part of it, but doesn’t have to be. I have been holding women’s circles for many years and can facilitate a group ceremony if that’s what you would like. Ceremonies can support these transitions:

  • Mother Rising – celebrating the pregnancy journey, setting intentions and gathering blessings before the birth. This can be done just for you, or for you and your partner/family, or for a wider group of people that hold and honour you.
  • Postpartum ceremony – honouring your journey into parenthood/motherhood any time after the birth. This can include a version of the traditional South American ‘closing of the bones’ where we use shawls and wraps to symbolise the closing of the physical, spiritual and emotional threshold after birth. I can bring herbal medicines to support the process.
  • Tending our losses – we can create a space for grief to be expressed and transformed, whether that is a pregnancy loss, a stillbirth, or any other grief that rises to the surface during your journey into parenthood/motherhood. I have a good bit of experience with death and grief, and trained in pregnancy loss and abortion support and as a soul midwife.

If you have any other ceremonies in mind, get in touch and we can talk it through.

“Su facilitated two ceremonies for me, before and after the birth of my child. One was a threshold ceremony to mark the transition of our lives – the journey we were about to enter. The second was the “closing of the bones” ritual at the end of my 4th trimester, as we crossed Imbolc and entered spring. Both incorporated traditional and spiritual healing: a seasonal altar, an intimate space to share, meditation, shamanic drumming, homegrown tea, sage smudging/cleansing, all by the soft glow of candlelight. Su was there quietly, ready to serve. Su held me, simplified obstacles, soothed and protected. I am incredibly grateful for her presence.”
